Keystone Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading banks has launched a ‘Keystone Bank Mobile App’ that doesn’t require customers to have mobile data before they can use it.

This innovative feat is achieved as part of the bank’s many efforts to self-banking through its online platform. It also comes at a time when online banking has gotten a boost in Nigeria. According to data recently released by the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), Nigeria’s e-payment services recorded transactions worth N56.85 trillion from January to September 2018.

The app has an array of features which include a ‘switch card on/off option,’ this allows users to disable their cards temporarily if missing and re-enable at the click of a button. The ‘hide balance feature’ helps safeguard third-party viewing of a customer’s account balance, and the ‘meet your relationship manager option’ allows users to call or email their account officers right within the app.

CEO of Keystone Bank Limited, Dr Obeahon Ohiwerei mentioned that this development is a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to deliver superior and innovative banking solutions to its customers. “Mobile banking for one isn’t entirely new in the industry, but there is no end to innovation in delivering customer convenience; at Keystone Bank, that’s what sets us apart and that shall continue to be our strength,” said Dr Obeahon said.

This innovation is definitely a welcome development in a banking industry where customers prefer to physically walk into banks to make deposits, inquiries, complain etc. Alternative channels like this zero data mobile app will allow users to easily access banking services within a short period of time.

“It is no longer a question of stepping out to the bank but about the convergence of innovative services, digital technology and Omni-channel platforms coming to us at breakneck speed,” Dr Obeahon added.

The zero data ‘Keystone Bank Mobile App’ is the first of its kind in the Nigerian banking sector.
