Nigeria’s largest online retailer, Jumia has entered into a partnership with African Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN), as it seeks to expand its reach in the Nigerian fashion market.

“We are always proud to promote Nigerian Fashion,” said Jeremy Doutte, Jumia Nigeria’s Co-CEO, who added that the success of the company’s ‘By-Naija’ online store, a store opened to empower Nigerian designers is spurring it on in encouraging creativity in Nigeria, an opportunity now presented by the upcoming fashion event.

African Fashion Week, which has held successful events in Europe, will offer upcoming fashion designers the opportunity to showcase their collections and also be part of a one-day workshop hosted by Jumia for fashion designers. The designers will learn entrepreneurship and how they can reach their target audience and achieve sales target using online retailers.

“We are really excited to have Jumia as a sponsor & partner of AFWN,” said Ronke Ademiluyi, Founder of AFWN.

Ademiluyi expressed belief that AFWN made the right decision by choosing Jumia as partner, noting that the e-commerce company is the perfect platform for the retail and distribution of labels by AFWN designers.

Jumia will at the end of the week-long event announce the Next Biggest Fashion Brands to Emerge out of Nigeria.

With more than 20,000 fashion items on its store, the upcoming designers at the event will be given an opportunity by Jumia to reach several potential customers on the e-retailer’s website as the company continues promoting Nigerian fashion.

A conversation will also be on Jumia’s Facebook and Twitter accounts during the period before the event.
