is official! Ivorian captain Didier Drogba will be playing his football in China from next month. The 34 year old has confirmed that he has signed a deal with Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua FC.

Writing on his twitter page @FoundationDrogba, the Ivorian striker said: “Today I can confirm that I signed with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua FC. I will join up with the team next month.”

“I have considered all offers I have received in the past few weeks, but feel Shanghai Shenhua FC is the right move for me at this time.”

The former Chelsea striker—whose last kick for the London club ensured they were crowned European Champions last month— says he is excited about the new challenge in Asia.

“I am looking forward to a new challenge, to experiencing a new culture, and excited about the new developments in the Chinese Super League.”

Drogba’s move to China seems to be a good deal for the African continent, as the Ivorian wants to ensure links between China and Africa are strenghtened.

“I hope to help promote Chinese football around the world and further improve the links between China and Africa,” he said.

The Ivorian is expected to have signed a two and half year contract, which is worth about 200, 000 pounds a week– a deal which makes him the highest paid footballer in China.
