Pan-African integrated payment service provider, Interswitch Transnational, has announced that it has been awarded the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS) certificate – the highest global security certification – for the third year running.

PCIDSS – the globally accepted set of policies and procedures, intended to optimize the security of credit, debit and prepaid card transactions and protect cardholders against misuse of their personal information – was awarded to Interswitch for the third time in a row, with the company echoing its pride at the achievement.

“We are delighted to have achieved PCIDSS for the third year in a row,” said Mr. Mitchell Elegbe, GMD/CEO of Interswitch Transnational.

“At Interswitch we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of security for our customers and are continually looking for ways to strengthen our fraud management strategy. So successful have we been that our fraud ratio is now less than 0.1%.”

The award is usually carried out independently by an externally Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV), who renders test for vulnerability.

The Nigerian based company, according to an official statement, is currently the only company in West Africa to have achieved the global certification, and is using its experience to assist its partner banks to also achieve PCIDSS.

The payment provider was first awarded the certificate back in 2010, joining the elite group of over 1,000 providers worldwide to have obtained the same certificate.
