The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, insists that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Operatives (SARS) do not have the right to torture or kill. He specifically stated that no policeman in the world has the right or authority to kill crime suspects.

Following the address that took place at the Force Headquarters, the Inspector General stated that the policemen had a lot to do to correct the public perception of not following due process in their operations. Hence, they should always respect the right of every Nigerian because this will help change the negative public perception.

“You should respect the constitutional right of every Nigerian; you don’t have authority to take lives, you don’t have authority to change a civil case to a criminal case, you don’t have the right to torture suspects.” said Ibrahim Idris.

On the other hand, he said the squad would undergo retraining and restructuring, above all, the civil society organizations would be involved in the revamping process to contribute to the training programme.
