Emerging Nigerian bank, Heritage Banking Company Limited, has introduced Nigeria’s first portable POS solution. The device is named “PortaPOS”. It is a product of Mobile Point of Sale (mPOS) revolution which is rapidly gaining global recognition.

“The Nigerian retail and corporate market is undergoing a massive transformation in a battle for digital consumers who shop through a variety of channels, and as such expect a more integrated payment experience that is quick, seamless, convenient, and most importantly secure,” said Niyi Adeseun, Executive Director, Manila Banking, Heritage Bank.

The PortaPOS functions in a similar fashion to a traditional electronic POS terminal but works using a specialised app that runs on mobile devices.

“Today, small businesses and large retailers are turning to mobile point of sale (or mPOS) to increase sales and broaden their customer base,” Niyi said.

The PortaPOS will be offered for free to all Heritage customers. It accepts Master, Visa Card and Verve Card, light as a regular mobile phone, equipped with a long lasting battery, and syncs to phones and printer via Bluetooth. It also offers a triple receipt options of email, SMS and paper print.
