Around noon yesterday, a bomb went off at the Musa Usman Secretariat Gate in Maidugri, Borno state, which killed five people and wounded many others. The bombing was reportedly masterminded by a male suicide bomber who was disguised as a lunatic. He allegedly attempted to enter the secretariat, however, due to the heavy security presence at the gate, he was unsuccessful.

This led the anonymous bomber to detonate the explosives strapped on his body, killing himself and five others including two policemen. According to reports, the Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, his deputy and some other government officials visited the scene and those injured had been transferred to the State’s hospital.

BokoHaram has reportedly claimed responsibility for the bombing. They reportedly released a statement saying “After planning in advance, it was possible for the brother Abu Anas al Ansari to detonate his explosive belt in the middle of the apostate Nigerian parliament gathering in Maiduguri.”
