At a press briefing held yesterday, the Lagos State Government revealed several multi-faceted projects that are set to commence in the last quarter of this year. These projects, some of which are underway already, are meant to enhance investments, improve living conditions, and generate revenue for the state.

1. Expand the Lekki-Epe expressway by taking out three roundabouts – 4th Roundabout (Elegushi), 5th Roundabout (Jakande) and 8th Roundabout (VGC) – to decongest traffic.

As part of the Lekki-Epe expansion, the government will install traffic lights, create turning lanes and additional lay-bys.

2. The construction of a 700 meter flyover bridge in Pen Cinema junction that would span Oba Ogunji road to Agunbiade.

3. Expand Oba Ogunji road in the Agege area. Create barriers to discourage indiscriminate parking by motorists, and a generous walkway to ensure the free flow of traffic.

4. Install 6,000 street lights to support the Light-Up Lagos initiative.

5. Install 13,000 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and security sensors across the state, for surveillance and the prevention of crime. This will begin by September 2016, and should be completed in 18 months.

6. Implement the Lagos Enterprise GIS (EGIS) upgrade and the Integrated Land Administration Automation System. This will ensure proper monitoring of government infrastructure for optimum benefits, fast-track the ease of doing business, and improve government-citizen relationship.

The EGIS project will also help promote and encourage a secondary mortgage market and facilitate investment in properties. This project has begun already.

As part of the EGIS project, information highway-metro fibre will be installed, and 4GLT deployed across the state. This will ensure the full implementation of electronic services like e-health, e-agric, and others.

There are a few ongoing construction of pedestrian bridges at strategic locations in the state, some of which are the bridges at Abule-Egba and Ajah Roundabout. The government has also constructed a pedestrian bridge at Berger, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to ease human and vehicular movement.
