The provisional winner of Haiti’s presidential election, Jovenel Moise, with 55 percent of the vote in the first round, has claimed victory, calling on demonstrators to stand down and restore order in the capital.

“We need order and discipline to put the country back on the road to development,” Moise said.

Following the provisional results which gave Jovenel Moise majority of the vote, Moise says he is Haiti’s “elected president.”However, in defiance of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), political groups, parties and candidates are “not to declare themselves elected.”

Therefore, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) mentioned in a press statement on Wednesday that the council is, and remains the only organization qualified to certify victory of a candidate.
