In 2016, The Ghana Gas Company Limited and Yantai Jereh Oilfield Services Group Co. Ltd of China decided to negotiate and sign a multi-million dollar project implementation agreement for an onshore natural gas transmission pipeline (NGTP) to be constructed in Ghana.

The signed deal and entire project including the implementation phase was estimated at $500 million.

Notwithstanding this signed agreement, on April 11 2017, The Ghana Gas Company signed yet again another deal with Chinese multinational Group, for the same power construction of an onshore 278 km natural gas pipeline from the Aboadze enclave in the Western Region to the power enclaves at Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

This latest deal will enable immediate commencement of site works such as topographical/geotechnical site surveys and front-end engineering designs (FEED), which are already underway, as well as on-site civil construction activities which will commence within a few days.

According to a press release from the two companies, Ghana government will not bear the upfront cost as the financial structure of the project includes a 15-year Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model whereby the Yantai Jereh Group, along with their investment partners, will fully pre-finance all construction activities related to the project.
