In order to boost sales and ensure easy access to its filling stations across the country, Nigerian petroleum marketing company, Forte Oil Plc. (formerly African Petroleum) has listed on Google maps.
According to the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Akin Akinfemiwa, the new initiative will enable customers who drive into any of the 36 states of the federation locate Forte Oil stations wherever they were by typing in Forte Oil on the Google map – which will in turn provide them with a list of Forte Oil stations in that region.
Akinfemiwa, acknowledged that “Technology is a major part of our (Forte oil) business transformation strategy. We use technology to constantly improve customer access of our products and services nationwide. Partnering with Google is a welcome initiative not just because Google is synonymous with search internationally, but also because it aligns well with our vision of being a technology-driven organisation.”
According to him, different map views are available for Google Maps, and as such customers can choose from the options of a terrain view, normal map view, or satellite image view based on their individual needs.
Commenting on the oil company listing, Google Nigeria Country Manager, Julie Ehimuan, said, “The goal of Google Maps is to make it easier for people across the world to locate places and businesses of interest.”
“We’re excited to see more Nigerian businesses like Forte Oil using Google Places to get listed on maps. This makes it easier for Nigerians to find and engage with these businesses. Customers can also search for places and get directions on the go, using Google Maps on their mobile phones.”

Google maps helps to know directions based on your travel mode, thus, irrespective of whether you are walking, using public transportation or your own car, you can get directions for a hassle free journey. What’s more, you can even use these maps to find out the missing location, which are not shown in traditional route maps.
