On Monday, 23rd October 2016, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, who was represented by Gbite Adeniji, the Senior Technical Adviser on Upstream and Gas, disclosed that the federal government has announced its plans to reduce its level of fuel imports by 60 percent by the year 2018. This was made known during the ongoing Oil Trading Logistics (OTL) conference taking place in Lagos.

‘‘Perhaps, the most important part of reforms in the midstream and downstream sub-sectors is in creating a profitable products-to-market system for Nigeria and removing hindrances and bottlenecks through incentives and regulatory frameworks,’’ said Gbite Adeniji.

According to Gbite, Nigeria needs to play a major role by putting up an interim measure to enhance the production capacity of our local refineries. This can be made possible through the implementation of modular refineries and co-location.
