Ethiopian Airport Enterprise proposes to build an International Airport at Teji, a town 30km west of its capital Addis Ababa.

The project will reduce the congestion at the Addis Ababa Bole International airport, according to information gathered from the Public Relations Department of Ethiopia Airlines.

The Airport Enterprise had been conducting a study on the establishment for some time. Capital source gathered that a plot for another airport was projected for 2017 based on the assumption that the airport would adequately accommodate air traffic tiil then.

Deputy Manager of the Addis Ababa and Surrounding Oromia Integrated Development Project Office (SOIDPPO) said the proposed plan is part of a strategy to revise the 10-year master plan that was drafted in the 90’s when the expansion project for the Bole Airport was designed.

The Bole Airport currently accommodates about 800 departures per week. It is the main airport in Ethiopia.
