At an event held to celebrate the drivers of Africa’s rapidly evolving economy, the organizers of the African Business Award bestowed Ethiopian Airlines with its “African Business of the Year” 2013 award.

The African Business Award, at a ceremony held at the Oriental in New York, recognised for the Airline for “its exemplary role as a business model that effectively harnesses African opportunities” and at the same time recording fast growth despite the tough economic climate in the global aviation sector.

Receiving the plaque was the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Tewolde Gebremariam said: “as a truly pan-African business organization, we are honoured and feel happy to receive this award”

“Africa is rising… With our multiple hub strategy which now covers five continents, we are serving as an essential vehicle for the flow of tourism and foreign direct investment on the continent”, Tewolde added.

Ethiopian, which has won multiple awards this year had earlier, clinched the SKYTRAX WORLD AIRLINE AWARD for “Best Airline Staff Service” category, while its CEO won the AIRLINE STRATEGY AWARD for “Regional Leader of the year”.
