It is yet to be determined whether Abdulahi Olatoyan, a windscreen cleaner in Ogun State, was gunning for a career in the fashion industry or not by turning up to his modest job everyday dressed smartly in a suit. However, he definitely seems to have followed a key career advice on “how to dress for the job you want, not the job you have” which states to “dress like you want a promotion.”

And if Abdulahi gets the job which renowned Nigerian designer, Uche Nnaji who owns the OUCH clothing line, is offering him, as posted on the designer’s Instagram page, then a promotion is definitely what Abdulahi will be getting. At least, in terms of a much needed career transition.

Abdulahi, a university graduate, was ‘discovered’ by celebrity photographer Daniel Sync who was inspired and impressed by the windscreen washer’s peculiar approach to his current job and proceeded to take pictures of him and write about their meeting, over the weekend. According to Sync, “well-spoken” Abdulahi took to cleaning car windscreens in traffic as a profession after he became unable to pursue his academic endeavours owing to the death of his father.

Sync’s post went viral and served as the catalyst for Uche Nnaji’s subsequent job proposal in what people are likening to the beginnings of Olajumoke Orisaguna’s ongoing fairytale, in which the former bread seller was transformed into a model following a publicised photo bombing incidence.

The designer outlined seven reasons why Abdulahi deserves a job at his establishment and the first is the fact that the ambitious windscreen cleaner made an effort to dress better than his present situation, showing that he is a “man with a VISION who needs a PUSH.”

Once again, a photographer, social media, and a likely ‘angel’ appear to be coming together to create an opportunity for another potential success story.
