The immediate past president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, has been caught up in the latest trend of accusations by President Donald Trump. The president, while fielding question during a programme on Fox News, stated that he believed the former president and his people are behind the leaks that have rocked his administration since its inauguration on January 20.

Trump, however, sees nothing harmful in the supposed role of the ex-president, describing it as “politics”. He added it is nothing new and that it will possibly continue.

The leaks which have rocked the Trump administration have fetched it an all time low in acceptance rating after its first month. Among the top documents leaked was a classified document containing intelligence report of the links between the Trump administration and Russia. The document has continued to drag the administration in a war of words with Democrats. It has specifically informed the current stand of the President towards the US media which he continues to antagonise. Earlier in February, a leak of phone calls between the Trump Camp and Russia led to the resignation of the National Security adviser, Michael Flynn in January.

The continuous feud with media organisations which helped spread the leak documents is believed to have informed Trump’s decision to boycott the first White House Correspondent dinner of his administration after announcing he would not be attending throughout the year, thus becoming the first president since Ronald Regan – who was, in 1981, recovering from a gunshot wound – to miss the dinner.

Since leaving the White House on the morning of January 20, Obama has refrained from political matters. He has been spotted spending time at a beach and recently attended a Broadway show with daughter, Sasha. He is yet to comment on Trump’s allegation.

However, having named several other persons as suspects in the leak in recent time, Obama appears only to be a victim of Trump’s paranoia. While it has been established that organisations with links to Obama – The Organize for Action group is one of such – as well as people who served under his administration, are the most likely sources of the leaks from the White House, it does not necessarily mean that Obama is involved.
