On Friday, 23rd September 2016, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr. Ferdi Moolman, announced that the telecommunication giant (MTN) did not give bribe for the reduction of the N1.04trillion fine the company was owing.

“The MTN Nigeria fine was ultimately settled with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC),” said Mr Ferdi.

According to Moolman, MTN’s attention has been drawn to an online report which alleged that a top official in the Presidency took bribe from the company to get the federal government to reduce the fine.

However, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had last year reduced the fine to N330 billion. Hence, MTN was allowed to pay the fine in a staggered payment plan that would last till May 31, 2019.
