Costa Crociere, the international cruise operating firm, is turning away its cruise ships from going to Tunisia, it emerged on Friday.

This comes after at least a dozen passengers drifting on two ships got to be among those murdered in the Wednesday gun violence in Tunisia’s capital, Tunis.

The two ships, Costa Fascinosa and MSC Splendida were transporting a combined 6.875 travellers.

The ships, according to Wall Street Journal (WSJ), were standing at Tunis’s La Goulette Port when the assault occurred.

The attack left 21 people dead, including 18 tourists from many countries including South Africa and Britain. These countries each lost one citizen in this attack.

“The safety of guests and crew members is Costa’s top priority. After what happened in Tunis on Wednesday, Costa Crociere is confirming that all upcoming calls in Tunis for the cruises of Costa Fortuna, Costa Favolosa, Costa neoRiviera will be substituted with alternative calls,” WSJ quoted the company as having said.

David Dingle, chairman of Carnival UK, a Carnival Corporation unit that operates P&O Cruises and Cunard, said that the two cruise lines had a smaller number of calls booked for Tunisia. “We are reviewing the situation. We need to understand more about the incident before reaching conclusions,” he told the Wall Street Journals today.

Meanwhile, the terror group, Isis, yesterday claimed responsibility for the attack on a museum in the capital of Tunisia, saying this was only the “first drop of the rain.”
