On Wednesday, 7th February 2017, the chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Bello Abbas, paid a scheduled visit to the prisons and granted pardon to 28 inmates awaiting trial in Sokoto Central Prisons. This exercise was conducted alongside all the judges in the state who visited the central prisons.

“Our aim is to see to the welfare of the inmates and ensure that no one will stay longer than necessary while awaiting trial before the various courts in the state,” said Justice Abbas.

The chief judge also promised that the remaining inmates awaiting trial would be tried soon, after communicating with all the courts and other related agencies. Moreover, 398 inmates are awaiting trial in the prison before various courts across the state.
