Stories are important just as the art of storytelling is. They educate, entertain, and serve a means to preserve culture. With an estimated 65,000,000 citizens scattered among over 250 ethnic groups, there are so many stories yet untold. This is why Quramo Publishing Limited is giving new and emerging writers in Nigeria a chance to tell their stories with The Quaramo Writers Prize 2017.

The prize aims to encourage and stimulate a new wave of talented writers with original stories and provide an opportunity for them to become published authors, and gain recognition. The competition is open to writers to submit unpublished work of fiction and nonfiction, and has two categories:

  • The Quramo Writer’s Prize: The general category for writers above 16 has a minimum word count of 5,000 words. And,
  • The Quramo Prize for Young Writers: An under 16 category with an upper limit of 3,000 words.

There will be one winner in each category; they will be announced at an award ceremony in September. Each winner will receive a cash prize, a publishing contract, and other incentives yet to be announced.

Participants are to submit their work at the website by filling out the application form and uploading their submissions. Alternatively, manuscripts are accepted via post or email to the addresses provided. Participants in the under-16 category submissions should indicate their age on the application form.

Quramo Publishing Limited is an independent publishing company committed to producing the highest quality content for various audiences. The company’s portfolio includes Q Books, QLife, Mango Books, The Quramo Report and CLRN Direct.

The call for submissions is officially open, with a deadline for August 2017.
