Oil workers have called off their strike after embarking on a meeting with the minister of state for petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu.

“Sequel to exhaustive deliberations between our GMD and GEC of PENGASSAN and NUPENG, the corporate-wide strike has been suspended,” the oil corporation said, via its Twitter handle today.

It should be noted that on Tuesday, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu made an announcement that the NNPC will be unbundled into seven independent units , namely downstream, gas and power, refineries, ventures, corporate planning and services, and finance and account. This did not go down well with NNPC staff as oil workers under the aegis of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) shut down operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) nationwide, following Tuesday’s unbundling of the corporation.

Members of staff and management of the corporation got to their offices on Wednesday morning and were denied entrance following the strike action.
