Indian multinational telecommunications service provider, Bharti Airtel, has announced the launch of its mobile High Definition (HD) voice service into the African market.

“Surveys confirm that customers place a high value on HD Voice”, explains Andre Beyers, the Chief Marketing Officer, Airtel Africa. “The new service will enrich end-user experience for Airtel subscribers”.

In the last two decades, the HD voice technology is the most significant improvement in voice communications.

Airtel said in an official statement that the 3G network supported mobile HD voice service “enables high-quality voice calls because it reduces background noise often heard on a regular call.”

After years of trials, after HD Voice services were first launched in 2009 by French telecommunication giant Orange, the service is now available in 35 countries around the world. According to the results of a recent survey, 96 percent of customers are satisfied with HD Voice calls, hence the rapid pace of commercialization of the services across the globe.

Airtel becomes the third operator to launch a mobile HD voice service in Africa with more launches scheduled in the year.

Bharti Airtel Limited is a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa. Headquartered in New Delhi, India, the company ranks amongst the top 4 mobile service providers globally in terms of subscribers. Bharti Airtel had over 262 million customers across its operations at the end of January 2013.
