The Association of Ghana Industries on Wednesday launched the Ghana Industrial Awards, in a push to improve business standards in the country.

The Awards will cover all sectors of the economy, and will celebrate and acknowledge companies that achieve great success in their industry sector, while adhering to exceptional standards in their business practices.  Companies introducing sector-important innovations, or displaying particularly impressive entrepreneurial tendencies will also be rewarded.

Companies will primarily be considered for six categories of Awards, namely: Overall Best Industrial Company of the Year, Best Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Project Company of the Year, Fastest Growing Company, Young Enterprise Company –Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Best Practices in Sustainable Manufacturing Company.

A further twenty companies will be recognised; through a range of sector specific awards which will also be granted each year, spanning all industry sectors to those companies excelling in their business practices and achievements.

Speaking at the launch event in Accra on Wednesday, President of the Association of Ghana Industries, Nana Owusu-Afari, explained that while serving as a marker of success, the awards would also enable the Association to lift up role-model businesses to the attention of start-ups and expanding enterprises.  He said: “It is a duty and honour for us, as AGI, to give credit to such distinguished companies while motivating other small and medium enterprises to climb up the ladder of excellence.”

He added that businesses that excel during the current economic climate deserve recognition and encouragement.

The Industry Awards will be held once a year in November; this year’s award ceremony to be held on November 24th.  Owusu-Afari commented that the Awards: “will be the climax of our national industrial week celebration.”

Nominees will be judged by an independent panel, based on multiple criteria, including growth, adherence to tax obligations, creation of employment, and corporate social responsibility activities.
