Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), a Nigeria-based leading non-governmental organization dedicated to women development and national building, will today kickstart its 11th annual conference.

The 2-day event which holds in Lagos is themed: “Workplace, Wellbeing & Wealth; Women working & winning.”

Nigeria’s only Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka will be at the event as the keynote speaker, with Ms. Evelyn Oputu Managing Director of Bank of Industry (BOI) gracing the occassion as chairperson.

According to Nigerian daily Vangaurd, WIMBIZ Executive Council member Mrs. Osayi Alile-Oruene, who also is the Executive Director of FATE Foundation (a private sector led non-profit initiative created to equip enterprising individuals), whilst commenting on the annual convention, said the event brings together CEOs form various industries in an interactive session with career women, to discuss their perspective on women issues in the workplace and how to facilitate the resolution of these issues.

“We have had topics such as building business relationships through networking, tooting your own horn and sexual harassment,” she noted.

Mrs. Adeola Azeez, WIMBIZ chairperson, at the briefing took time to shed light on the strategies of the women-focused group.

“Our programme seeks to foster the professional and entrepreneurial growth of mentees, both as future members of the women in management community, through a traditional mentoring programme,” she said.

“WIMBIZ mentoring training programme has been structured to meet the needs of the growing number of women in management and business seeking development and growth in every aspect of their lives,” added the mentor who also is Deputy MD of Deutsche Bank Nigeria.

In August, the NGO announced the appointment of three new executive council members to its 8-member board. These included Mrs. Opunimi Akinkugbe, the Regional Director (West Africa) Wealth & Investment Management at Barclays and Chief Country Officer for Nigeria; the founder of Nigeria’s foremost cultural centre, Terra Kulture, Mrs. Bolanle Austen-Peters; and Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui Okauru, the immediate-past Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service and Chairman, Joint Tax Board for the period May 2004 to April 2012.
