The 27th edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa is taking place in Durban, South Africa from the 3rd to 5th of May 2017. Over 1200 participants from over 100 countries representing business, government, academia, civil society, media and the arts are attending this meeting themed “Achieving Inclusive Growth through Responsive and Responsible Leadership.”

According to Maxwell Hall, a member of the Public Engagement Team at the ongoing WEF on Africa, the meeting aims to move leaders to change the way they approach development planning by designing policies that allow everyone to benefit from economic growth.

The participants for today’s plenary sessions include:

  • Winnie Byanyima – Executive Director, Oxfam International
  • Lindiwe Mazibuko – Leader of the Opposition, Parliament of South Africa (2011-2014), Democratic Alliance (DA)
  • Rich Lesser – President and CEO, The Boston Consulting Group
  • Philipp Rösler – Head of Regional and Government Engagement, Member of the Managing Board, World Economic Forum Geneva
  • Anant Sing – Producer, Videovision Entertainment
  • Thierry Déau – Chief Executive Officer, Meridiam Infrastructure
  • Carlos Poñe – Chief Executive Officer, Africa, AECOM
  • Patrick Khulekani Dlamini – Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Development Bank of Southern Africa
  • Andrew Baldwin – Managing Partner, Europe, Middle East, India and Africa, EY
  • Nena Stoiljkovic – Vice-President, Blended Finance and Partnerships, International Finance Corporation (IFC)
  • Yoweri Kaguta Museveni – President of Uganda, Office of the President of Uganda
  • Nicolaas Kruger – Chief Executive Officer, MMI Holdings Limited
  • Rapelang Rabana – Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Rekindle Learning
  • Susan Mboya – President, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation; Group Director, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Eurasia and Africa, The Coca-Cola Company
  • Hamilton Ratshefola – Country General Manager, IBM Corporation
  • Jennifer Blanke – Vice-President, Agriculture, Human and Social Development, African Development Bank (AfDB)

They will be leading discussions on several topics which include, “Leadership in an Era of Disruption,” “Unlocking Africa’s Industrial Corridors,” “Unemployed and Unemployable,” “Agenda 2063: Infrastructure Update” and “Update on South Africa and Nigeria.”

There will also be press conferences on “Launch of a New Fund to Tackle Africa’s Learning Crisis,” “How confident are CEOs about growth and business in Africa?” and an Issue Briefing on “ A Green Industrialization?”
