Yesterday evening armed men believed to be Boko Haram’s brutal jihadists were involved in a shoot-out with Nigerian soldiers in Aladuwari village, about 2 km away from Maiduguri. According to reports, this gun battle began shortly after the attackers arrived the location at about 6 p.m local time.

The shoot-out was shortly followed by a suicide bombing at about 8pm. The two bombers, suspected to be females set off the explosives close to FOMWAN school in Jiddari area of Maiduguri.  But the number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

Last month, on the same day Nigeria’s army allegedly arrested one of the 100 most-wanted Boko Haram suspects in Lagos, twin bombs exploded in a mosque in Cameroon. Two female suicide bombers suspected of belonging to the Boko Haram militant group also killed three Nigerians in a truck with refugees along Cameroon’s far North region.

The Boko Haram insurgency has continued to step up its campaign of indiscriminate killings and suicide bombing using girls, often veiled to blow up targets in Nigeria’s northeast, northern Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
