Ever wondered what it would be like to hear the Pope spit a few rap bars or drop a lyrically dope album? Twitter has you covered.
On Monday, while Pope Francis toured parts of Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, a country wracked in recent years by civil strife. He made a statement urging both Muslims and Christians alike to embrace unity and reconciliation.
In his statement, he said “Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters, we must, therefore, consider ourselves and conduct ourselves as such.” while speaking at a mosque in Bangui.
However amidst the Pope’s grave message, Twitter added some welcome humor to his visit. Yesterday, an image started making the rounds of the Pope holding a microphone at a camp for the internally displaced and featured the Pope looking like he was about to share a message or perhaps ‘drop some bars’. And so he did, via Twitter.
Twitter was suddenly awash in the holy glow of #PopeBars. With meme-worthy photo of Pope Francis gripping a microphone alongside hip-hop lyrics inspired by His Holiness.

However, some observers tried to return the conversation to the issues actually on-going the Central African Republic.
I hope @pontifex‘s visit to Central African Republic delivers concrete benefits, but #PopeBars is a promising start. pic.twitter.com/nmUSvMtLjM
